Samsung Galaxy S II hits 5m global sales

27 Jul 2011

Some 5m units of the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone have been sold worldwide, Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd has announced.

The Galaxy S II reached the 5-million sales mark in 85 days, which is 40 days faster than the original Galaxy S took to reach the same sales mark. This rate is set to accelerate as Samsung has just launched the Galaxy S II in China, the world’s largest market.

“In just a few months, the Galaxy S II has led the way in driving Samsung’s unmatched performance in the smartphone industry,” said JK Shin, president and head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.

“Since being launched into the retail market in late April, the Galaxy S II has seen tremendous growth. This reflects the strong support from carrier partners globally, who in choosing the Galaxy S II as their flagship device have reaffirmed the device’s status as a premium, market-defining smartphone.”

The Galaxy S II is Samsung’s flagship Android smartphone device; a thin (8.49mm) and lightweight dual-core smartphone that has been designed to combine a Super AMOLED Plus viewing experience with solid performance.

The next-generation smartphone also includes exclusive access to Samsung’s four new content and entertainment hubs, all integrated to provide instant access to music, games, e-reading and social networking services.
