Firms need to get to grips with social business in terms of tools for collaboration and tools for valued business results, this month’s it@cork TechTalk heard.

At the it@cork monthly Tech Talk, the international HR director of LinkedIn and a senior engineer with IBM discussed the potential for driving business results through collaboration and social networking.

LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional social network with 175m users, employs 300 people in Ireland.

The company’s international HR director Connie Gibney pointed out the benefits for building a social brand both for the individual and the business.

IBM senior engineer Michael Roche discussed how businesses are implementing their own internal social media platforms.

“Social media is really about social business, driving relevant collaboration and supporting tools for valued business results,” it@cork chairman Denis Collins explained.

“The models deployed by LinkedIn and IBM are examples of the way we can do this, changing the way we do business, and delivering tangible value to the marketplace,” Collins said.
