Zynga’s CFO leaves company for senior Facebook role

14 Nov 2012

Social games maker Zynga’s chief financial officer David Wehner is leaving the company to take on a senior finance job at social networking giant Facebook.

Wehner will become Facebook’s vice-president of corporate finance and business planning, Bloomberg reported Facebook spokeswoman Ashley Zandy as having said.

Zynga is the company behind Facebook games such as FarmVille and CityVille.

Mark Vranesh will succeed Wehner at Zynga, and company CEO Mark Pincus announced other changes at the top.

Chief mobile officer David Ko has been named chief operations officer, Barry Cottle has been appointed chief revenue officer, and Steven Chiang became president of games, Pincus revealed on the company blog.

“These changes come at an important time,” Pincus stated.

“We are positioning ourselves for long-term growth and I’m confident that we have the breadth and depth of management talent to deliver on our mission of connecting the world through games. We are also today reaffirming our 2012 financial outlook that we communicated on October 24, 2012.”

At that time, Zynga reported its third-quarter financial results, which showed a 3pc increase in revenue to US$316.6m from a year earlier and an increase in daily active users from 54m in Q3 of 2011 to 60m in Q3 of 2012, marking a 10pc increase year-over-year.

However, Zynga had also announced it has shed 5pc of its workforce.

“This is the most painful part of an overall cost-reduction plan that also includes significant cuts in spending on data hosting, advertising and outside services, primarily contractors,” Pincus said at the time.
