Ministers encourage entrepreneurs to partake in European SME Week

RIchard Bruton, Ireland's Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation

European SME Week, a major campaign co-ordinated by the European Commission to promote enterprise across the continent, has begun today in 37 countries.

The campaign runs until this Sunday (5 October) with events, workshops and activities organised throughout the week.

Among its aims, the European Commission is to promote enterprise in line with the Small Business Act for Europe, which recognises the central role of SMEs in the EU economy. Additionally, information will be provided on what the EU and regional authorities are offering as support to SMEs.

Present at the launch of the Irish campaign today were Ireland’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton and Minister for Business and Employment Ged Nash.

“I would encourage Irish SMEs seeking out opportunities in the single market to make contact with Enterprise Ireland or the single point of contact in the country that they wish to gain access to,” said Bruton.

“In this way they can learn more about the supports that are available as they seek to expand their business and create the jobs we need.”

Nash added, “I would encourage SMEs, entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs to use the week to engage with their Local Enterprise Office.

“There are a number of supports available across the country that will help you to start a business or improve your business performance.”

More information on European SME Week events is available via the European SME Week website.
