Cloud computing offers varied job opportunities – NCI

27 Jul 2011

National College of Ireland is offering job seekers the opportunity to take up a free part-time programme in cloud computing, web development or web technologies under the Government’s Springboard initiative.

This was highlighted at a free event in the college today called ‘Find your Silver Lining’, which featured industry speakers who explained what cloud computing is and what it means for business, as well as identifying the types of job opportunities that exist in the area.

Industry experts included David McGeough and Jackie Flatley from Citrix, Joe Haugh from Productful.com and Dermot Casey from Storyful.

“The main messages from the event are that there are real opportunities for job seekers in cloud computing and you don’t have to be from a technical background to avail of them,” said Robert Ward from NCI.

“Cloud computing is changing business processes and this has resulted in job opportunities across a wide range of professions, including sales, finance and project management, as well as more technical roles.”

He added: “The Government has committed to developing Ireland as a ‘Digital Island’ and, to make this a reality, we need people who are trained and ready to plug the skills gap in the cloud computing, digital and ICT sectors.

Free courses on offer at NCI under the Springboard initiative include a certificate and post-graduate diploma in cloud computing, certificate in web development, and certificate in science in web technologies. More information can be found here.
