Cloud player Pinger to create 15 tech jobs in Dublin

27 Oct 2011

Pinger, the cloud-based tech firm that develops free texting and phone call applications for use on the iPod touch, iPad, iPhone, Android phones and the web, is to create 15 new jobs in Dublin, it emerged this morning.

The company will be locating its EMEA headquarters in the city. The HQ will be responsible for managing Pinger across all territories, with the exception of North America.

Pinger’s Textfree with Voice is the No 1 free texting provider and the seventh-largest mobile carrier in the US by volume of texts.

Pinger apps have been downloaded more than 50m times and more than 19bn text messages have moved through its system. More than 1.6bn texts go through Pinger each month. The company launched its European expansion in Germany in September with its new Pinger SMS Free app for iOS and Android.

“The announcement by yet another fast-growing, innovative technology company that it is locating international headquarters in Dublin shows that there are real grounds for the city’s claim to be the internet capital of Europe,” said Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Minister Richard Bruton, TD.

“We must continue to build on this success to not only attract more dynamic and pioneering multinational operations to Ireland, but also crucially ensure that our indigenous companies benefit from their presence here.”

Greg Woock, CEO and co-founder of Pinger, said: “Dublin offers a young and talented workforce and a cluster of emerging technology companies which is attractive to us. We appreciate the ongoing support of IDA Ireland throughout this process and look forward to a long and successful relationship.”

Welcoming the announcement, IDA Ireland CEO Barry O’Leary said, “Given its niche position within the marketplace, Pinger has huge growth potential and is at the forefront of an emerging business model.

“Pinger adds to the growing base of cloud computing companies in Ireland which is a key growth area identified in IDA’s strategy, Horizon 2020.’’
