Kildare-based The Natural Power Company is to create 50 jobs over the next three years.

The Natural Power Company, which designs, constructs and maintains wind energy solutions, also said it hopes to help secure almost 250 additional jobs in local suppliers with the establishment of a new manufacturing facility for wind turbines.

“This is an important step in establishing Ireland as a leading player in the wind-energy industry,” said Ross Murphy, managing director of The Natural Power Company. “The impact of the new facility will be felt not only in our exports but also in the ongoing development of capacity and technical expertise in Ireland.”

The Natural Power Company, which is based in Ballymore Eustace, Co Kildare, is already a licensed manufacturer of 500kW turbines from Belgian company Turbowinds. It is also the first company in Europe to be given the licence to manufacture the company’s T500-48 500kW utility grade wind turbines.

Mairead McGuinness, Ireland East MEP, met with both companies in Brussels this week to welcome the development.

“This is a company at the leading edge in wind and solar energy technology,” McGuinness said.

Jean-Pierre Dutry, president at Turbowinds, said, “Together with The Natural Power Company, we will substantially increase our presence in the United Kingdom and Ireland”.
