Apple has signed a deal to set up an office in Cork city centre, which will house up to 350 employees.

The Irish Examiner reports that Apple is to lease the top two floors of a €75m building in Half Moon Street.

The 25,000 sq-foot office is in a building that opens onto Lavitts Quay, with further vacant space if required. The office will be fitted out by the end of the year.

The move is seen as a huge gain for Cork. Apple has had a facility in the county since the 1980s serving the EMEA market and it has hired 3,000 people in Ireland.

"Apple is one of the many global technology companies with operations in Ireland,” said an IDA spokesperson.

"Since it established in Cork 30 years ago, it has been a significant employer in the southwest region."
