16 Sep 2011

A new €200m Coca-Cola manufacturing and innovation facility has been officially opened by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Wexford, which will result in the creation of 100 new jobs.

The company said 65 of these jobs had already been filled. The new operation includes manufacturing, laboratory and pilot plant facilities to enable process development and product commercialisation.

Coca-Cola also announced an expansion of its global business shared services organisation in Drogheda. This includes recent investment in new offices and the creation of up to 100 positions, of which 40 new roles have recently been filled. The new offices in Drogheda will be officially opened in late October.

“Our continued investments in Wexford, Drogheda and throughout Ireland will ensure we sustain and enhance our growth globally in the coming years,” said Muhtar Kent, chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, who was in Wexford for the opening today.

“The Coca-Cola brand has been in Ireland for more than half a century and our long history here gives us continued confidence in the strength of the Irish workforce, the commitment of the Irish Government and the know-how of Irish people to support our business.”

Also attending the official opening was Coca-Cola director and former president of the company, Don Keough, who was named Irish America magazine’s first Irish-American of the year in 1993 and in 2010 was the first honoree inducted into the magazine’s Irish America Hall of Fame.

In Ireland and Northern Ireland, The Coca-Cola Company and its partners, including bottling partner Coca-Cola Hellenic, employ 1,900 people at 10 facilities.
