New internship programme to let Irish people pursue career in Asia

16 Mar 2012

The Farmleigh Internship Programme for Asia has launched, aiming to offer internship opportunities in Asia to 1,000 Irish professionals within the next five years.

Aligned with the Government’s recent ‘Pathways to Work’ initiative, the programme aims to equip professionals with the cultural and communication skills needed to succeed in Asia. It’s open to candidates of all educational backgrounds looking to pursue a career in Asia.

It will be facilitated by the Farmleigh Fellowship, a voluntary group associated with the Global Irish Network led by members of the Irish diaspora in Singapore. The programme will also be supported primarily by Irish and multinational companies with some Government funding.

The fellowship already supports a master’s in Asian business between University College Cork and NTU in Singapore, which was launched in 2011.

“The Farmleigh Internship Program (Asia) builds on the success of our existing fellowship programme but this initiative is more inclusive in nature by offering candidates of all educational backgrounds an opportunity to gain work experience in Asia supported and mentored by the Irish diaspora,” said Fred Combe, chairman of the Farmleigh Fellowship.
