Eighty-four per cent of Irish people have been contacted by work when on holiday, with calls from the boss ranking as being more stressful than a bungee jump, a study suggests.

Some 800 Dublin jobs are to be created with the opening of Sky’s 10th customer service centre – and its first in Ireland – to meet increased service demands from Irish customers. An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, TD, was on hand to officially open the centre at Dublin’s Burlington Plaza today.
The new customer service centre will enable Sky to serve its Irish customers from one dedicated site and comes as part of an ongoing programme to bring more of Sky’s customer service and installation workforce in-house.
“The launch of our new site in Dublin marks a very significant day for Sky’s Irish business,” said Sky CEO Jeremy Darroch. “Ireland has been a great market for Sky. We’ve been here from the very start, growing to become the most popular provider of TV in the country. For the first time, we will have a dedicated presence on the ground to support this growth.”
Sky employs more than 23,000 people across the UK and Ireland and this new centre brings 800 new jobs on the market for Dublin. Recruitment continues for roles such as customer service manager, adviser, trainer, coach and other HR positions.
Serving 10.6m homes in UK and Ireland, Sky is now preparing to launch its broadband and home phone services in Ireland. Customers were invited to pre-register for phone and broadband packages last year as Sky ramps up competition between itself and UPC.
UPDATE: At today’s opening ceremony, CEO Jeremy Darroch announced that Sky will be investing more than €1bn in jobs, broadband and sales in Ireland over the next five years. To date, Sky has invested €100m in Ireland.
