LinkedIn users give out 1bn skills endorsements (infographic)

6 Mar 2013

The number of skills endorsements LinkedIn users have been giving one another has reached 1bn in six months, with endorsed skills ranging from visual C++ to water treatment, the company has announced.

“Not only have we seen a 2x weekly increase in recommendations since the launch of endorsements, members are also actively adding new skills to their profiles to showcase their full expertise,” Peter Rusev, associate product manager at LinkedIn wrote on the LinkedIn Blog.

Skills endorsements are generated from a LinkedIn member’s profile. When users visit the profile page of one of their contacts, a box appears at the top of the profile page that lists particular skills associated with the contact. The user can then endorse the contact for skills by removing certain skills – or keeping all of them – and then clicking the ‘Endorse’ button.

The very first skill endorsed on LinkedIn was for visual C++ and its one billionth endorsed skill was for water treatment.

The infographic below provides a more detailed breakdown of the skills endorsed on the business social network.
