26 Apr 2013

One of the leading powerbrokers in the smartphone revolution, Qualcomm, is establishing a R&D centre in Cork and has already begun recruitment. It is envisaged an initial 20 jobs will be created but the operation could scale up significantly.

Qualcomm employs more than 26,000 people in 188 worldwide locations and last year recorded revenues of US$19.1bn.

The company is behind the powerful Snapdragon system-on-a-chip (SOC) chipsets that feature in the latest and most popular 3G and 4G (LTE) smartphone devices from manufacturers like LG and HTC.

The company immediately began hiring and seeking senior engineers in the areas of hardware, information security, Oracle database systems and IS investigations and forensics.

For more than 25 years, Qualcomm ideas and inventions have helped drive the evolution of digital communications.

“Qualcomm is growing its Irish workforce with the addition of highly skilled staff who will support the company’s workforce across the globe,” said Barry O’Leary, CEO at IDA Ireland.

“Qualcomm is looking to fill a number of positions in Cork at this time and we are hopeful that they continue to grow their Irish operations in the future.”
