Irish car parts and accessories e-commerce retailer MicksGarage.com is to create 65 new jobs over the next two years on the back of a €2.3m investment to expand the business.

MicksGarage.com is now recruiting for number of positions, including web developers, web designers, customer care, and PPC online marking specialists. The business currently employs 34 people.

This morning, Ireland’s Taoiseach Enda Kenny opened MicksGarage.com’s new 32,000 sq-foot warehouse and office facility in Park West, Dublin.

The business’ expansion also includes the roll out of localised MicksGarage websites for nine European markets, including France, Germany and Sweden.

“Getting Irish businesses online is a key part of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs and it’s hugely encouraging to see an indigenous e-commerce company like MicksGarage.com demonstrate the capacity to expand and develop its business throughout the world,” said Kenny.

“The motoring sector in Ireland has undergone extreme pressures over the past few years, but MicksGarage.com is an example of what can be achieved when talent, hard work and technology come together.”

The MicksGarage.com website sells more than 1.5m car parts and accessories that the company has been delivering across Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe.

Brothers Ciaran and Michael Crean from Ballina, Co Mayo, founded MicksGarage.com in 2004.

Michael Crean, who now serves as online and technology director for MicksGarage.com said the company has seen a “phenomenal” growth in sales in recent years as more consumers have switched to the internet for their car parts and accessories.

“We’re also expanding our customer service support to a seven-day, 7am-11pm timeframe, which will help to capitalise on our pan-European websites and expand our UK and Irish sales,” Michael Crean said.

The investment includes contributions from private investors,Ulster Bank Diageo Venture Fund managed by NCB Ventures, and the AIB Seed Capital Fund managed by Dublin BIC.
