2 Apr 2014

ARC Devices is to create 13 jobs at its new headquarters in Holywood, Co Down, where the medical-device company will undertake design, support and market development activities.

The company, by using sensor technology, develops and manufactures non-touch, infrared digital thermometers consumers can use at home and medical professionals can use in clinical environments.

Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI) has offered ARC Devices stg£74,000 towards its investment.

The funding has allowed the company to move quickly to recruit high-calibre staff and get business activity under way, said Kevin Paul, CEO of ARC Devices.

“We have worked closely with Invest NI’s trade team to explore new market opportunities in Europe and the Middle East, which is developing positively, and we look forward to launching our new product range later this year,” Paul added.

Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster said the establishment of ARC Devices in Northern Ireland adds to the region’s growing life-sciences sector and introduces expertise in the niche field of thermometry.

“Life sciences is an important sector characterised by knowledge-based activity and high levels of productivity, which can help to grow our local economy,” Foster added.

ARC Devices is also working with the Connected Health Innovation Centre (CHIC) to explore research opportunities for the improvement of patient care.

“The support offered by Invest Northern Ireland, collaboration opportunities and the benefits of R&D tax relief available in the UK made Northern Ireland an attractive choice for ARC Devices in choosing where to base their operations,” Foster said.
