CIT’s Nimbus Centre creates 27 new research and development jobs

17 Apr 2014

The Nimbus Centre for Embedded Systems Research at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) has announced the creation of 27 new positions this year, with hiring already under way for some roles.

The Nimbus Centre is Ireland’s only dedicated research centre for networked embedded systems – the hidden computers found running mobile phones, machines in factories, domestic appliances and much more.

At Nimbus, the focus is on applying these systems to four key areas: energy, water, location-based services and management of the built environment.

The 27 high-tech R&D jobs announced today build on 22 roles created last year and will support the expansion of the centre’s activities in the internet of things, and energy and water management technologies.

The centre received €4m in funding last year from Enterprise Ireland, the Higher Education Authority, the European Union, Science Foundation Ireland and industry. The National Sustainable Building Energy Test Bed facility opened here last year to examine ideas for future energy-saving products and services in a real environment.
