Ireland ranks first for availability of skilled labour in the world – IMD Yearbook 2014

Ireland ranks first for availability of skilled labour in the world and is No 15 in terms of overall global competitiveness, according to the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2014.

According to the yearbook, Ireland has moved up nine places in overall competitiveness in the last four years.

The country achieved top ranking position for availability of skilled labour, flexibility and adaptability of workforce, attitudes to globalisation and first for investment incentives.

In terms of economic performance, Ireland jumped seven places to be 19th overall.

The country increased three places to 14th overall for government efficiency.

In terms of business efficiency, Ireland moved nine places to be fourth in the world and two places to be 20th in the world for its infrastructure.

“Ireland’s ranking of 15th in the overall rankings in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook is excellent news for Ireland’s foreign direct investment proposition,” said IDA Ireland CEO Barry O’Leary.

“Ireland in recent years has regained valuable competitiveness, while continuing to offer a strong skills base to prospective companies looking to invest here. This has helped to deliver a very strong FDI performance by Ireland.”
