Business software leader SAP to create 260 technology jobs in Dublin and Galway

27 May 2014

German software giant SAP is to create 60 predictive analytics positions and 200 new technology support roles at its Dublin and Galway operations.

The 60 predictive analytics/R&D jobs will be created at the company’s Business Objects Software unit, which is located at SAP’s facility in CityWest, Dublin.

SAP is also currently recruiting in its Business Suite and Cloud Support organisations and expects to fill over 200 roles in 2014.

“SAP continues to be a great success story in Ireland and today’s announcement is another strong vote of confidence in the ability of SAP’s Irish based operations to continue to attract talent that will be the source of innovation and support,” SAP’s managing director in Ireland Liam Ryan explained.

“The technology sector is driving much of the recovery in the economy and is providing the types of jobs and careers that we need to create to compete in an increasingly international and digital world. To truly take advantage of these exciting and emerging job opportunities, we cannot become complacent. I would urge all stakeholders in Ireland’s education and employment sectors to work together to ensure we continue to have a healthy pipeline of talent and skillsets that meet the demands of our businesses,” Ryan said.

The jobs news came as part of a jobs bonanza revealed by IDA Ireland with the additional news that Swedish telecoms equipment and software giant Ericsson is to create 120 new jobs in Dublin and Athlone.

Analytics will be one of the key jobs of the 21st century

Ryan’s colleague Dr Tony O’Donnell, head of Business Intelligence R&D SAP operations in Ireland said that predictive analytics is one of the most exciting next-generation technologies in the tech industry.

“SAP has placed Ireland at the heart of driving global innovation and development in this area, and I know our record of engineering excellence and innovation will make the new mission a success.”

Today’s announcement will provide opportunities for software developers, data scientists and quality specialists to join a world-class product development team.

“SAP is one of the most prominent brands in the global ICT sector,” IDA Ireland chief executive Barry O’Leary pointed out.

“Today’s announcement is a vote of confidence in Ireland’s technological capabilities and strong track record in the ICT sector. IDA values our strong partnership over the years with SAP and I would like to congratulate Liam Ryan and the SAP teams in Galway and Dublin for all they have achieved over the 14 years since they established in Ireland. I wish SAP every success and the continued support of IDA in implementing their plans in Ireland.”
