Siliconrepublic caught up with Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) director-general Prof Mark Ferguson to find out more about the new €1.7m fellowship programme and how the SIF hopes to maintain research integrity.

Known as the Industry Fellowship Programme, the Irish Government fund is aimed at creating stronger links between those involved in the academic fields and those in industry by creating more opportunities for the former to get the opportunities to make the move from studies into a career.

With this in mind, Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and its director-general Prof Mark Ferguson have begun working with some of the largest research companies and organisation in Ireland including Siemens, Alcatel-Lucent, Bell Labs Ireland, IBM and Intel Ireland to make this transition as achievable as possible for the most people.

While speaking with Siliconrepublic, Prof Ferguson also discussed the recent EXCITED digital learning festival held at the end of May and how there are real signs of encouragement from Ireland’s youth with regard to digital learning.
