New jobs as viagogo Group establishes operations centre in Limerick

2 Jul 2014

The operator of ticket exchange viagogo.com, viagogo Group, is to open a purpose-built international operations centre in Limerick and create a variety of technical and customer service jobs.

The Limerick operations centre is seeking employees with a range of skills and languages. Besides English, the centre is now hiring German, French, Italian, and Spanish speakers.

The new centre is due to open later this year. The company has already recruited a team of people who are based at a temporary location in Limerick city centre.

Edward Parkinson, operations manager for viagogo Group, said the company chose Limerick for its reputation as a place of excellence and local talent.

“We have already recruited in the tens but numbers are expected to reach the hundreds in due course,” Parkinson said.

“The primary role of our international customer services team is to ensure that all of our customers have a great experience when buying or selling event tickets, wherever they are in the world.”

viagogo’s online platform, used by customers in about 100 countries, helps people buy and sell tickets to live sports, entertainment and theatre events worldwide.

The Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland is supporting the company’s new investment in Limerick.

Barry O’Leary, CEO at IDA Ireland, said Limerick continues to attract businesses in a variety of sectors, including technology, medical devices and financial services.

He also cited another reason why companies are choosing Limerick: its proximity to international routes in Shannon.

Richard Bruton, Ireland’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, said a key part of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs is reinforcing Ireland’s claim to be the internet capital of Europe.

“Most of the top names on the internet have chosen Ireland as their European base, and these companies employ thousands of people here,” Bruton said.
