Data protection solutions provider Proofpoint, Inc is to create 94 new jobs in Belfast on the back of a stg£6m investment to broaden the distribution and support networks for its suite of products.

The Belfast operation will become the R&D and operations centre for Proofpoint Essentials and will act as an operations and support hub for Proofpoint’s global customer base in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Proofpoint Essentials is a suite of SaaS security and compliance solutions geared toward small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Invest NI has offered more than stg£600,000 of support for the new jobs, which are expected to be in place by the end of 2016.

Proofpoint, Inc is based in Sunnyvale, California, and its CEO Gary Steele said the technology ecosystem in Northern Ireland shares many of the characteristics of Silicon Valley, including cybersecurity research at Queen’s University Belfast.

Arlene Foster, Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister, said Proofpoint recognised the benefits of establishing a European centre in Belfast, including the availability of high quality technical and sales staff, as well as the high-speed telecoms links between Northern Ireland, North America and Europe.
