Most Career Zoo attendees seek tech-sector jobs

27 Aug 2014

More than half of Career Zoo attendees are looking for jobs in the tech sector and this September’s extravaganza promises to deliver, Career Zoo director Brian Ó hOisín said as Richard Bruton, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, launched the event today.

The event that is more than just a career fair for professionals and graduates takes place at The Convention Centre Dublin on 13 September from 10am-5pm. Upwards of 10,000 job-seekers are expected to attend.

“From our February event, we found that 55pc of attendees were seeking opportunities in the tech sector,” said Ó hOisín.

On 13 September, some of the world’s most innovative companies and institutes will meet with thousands of Ireland’s finest talent, in a bid to fill thousands of high-tech employment opportunities.

Some of the major multinational companies that will be there are Salesforce.com – recently named as the world’s most innovative company by Forbes magazine – Silicon Republic’s Featured Employers DropboxAccenturePramericaVersion 1 and Fidelity Investments, as well as Amgen, Ericsson Liberty IT, Bank of Ireland and Johnson & Johnson.

Types of jobs on offer at Career Zoo

David Dempsey, MD, Salesforce.com, said the company is looking forward to meeting the high-calibre talent that Career Zoo attracts.

“Having recently been named as Forbes’ most innovative company in the world for the fourth consecutive year, we’re excited to find talented people who want work with us to continue this success.”

Dempsey also provided a taste of the areas that have open positions at the company’s Dublin facilities: sales, tech ops, customer support, sales engineering and marketing.

Also participating at Career Zoo will be leading organisations and educational institutes, such as Science Foundation Ireland, The Irish Research Council, NDRC, TCD and The Open University.

Bruton said providing support to the dynamic sectors of the economy that can drive the growth Ireland needs is at the centre of the Irish Government’s Action Plan for Jobs.

“A real jobs recovery is under way, with 70,000 additional jobs created over the past two years, but we have a long way to go. Events like Career Zoo have a major role to play in helping to bring together people looking for new jobs with the employers who need them.”

Ó hOisín agrees that brining talent and opportunity together has always been a challenge, especially over the past few years.

“Our aim is to overcome that challenge and give Ireland’s talent pool of graduates and professionals alike the chance to meet these innovative companies. Indigenous and multinational organisations from various sectors have thousands of positions to offer across tech, finance, sales, HR and marketing, to name a few,” Ó hOisín said.

Other features at Career Zoo

New at this eighth edition of Career Zoo is a ‘BioCluster’ zone that will highlight positions across Ireland’s thriving biopharma industry, such as engineering, advanced manufacturing, quality management, supply chain and logistics, and scientific and research roles.

Some oldies and goodies will be coming back, too: the Career Workshop series, a Career Clinic, where attendees can obtain career advice, and Tech Box, where tech activities will take place.

Career Zoo is free to attend, but registration in advance is recommended.

The event is sponsored by Liberty IT, Salesforce.com, Amgen, Bank of Ireland, Science Foundation Ireland, Irish Research Council and IrishJobs.ie.
