Google’s Megan Smith top pick for US CTO job – report

29 Aug 2014

Megan Smith, vice-president at internet search giant Google’s test research arm Google X, is reportedly a top candidate for the US government’s chief technology officer job.

Bloomberg reported the news as coming from people with knowledge of the matter who asked not to be identified because the hiring process is private.

Google, Smith and the White House all have not commented on the matter.

The US government’s CTO would oversee its use of technology and advise the president on technology policy issues, Reuters reported.

Smith would become the third person to fill the CTO job, after Aneesh Chopra and Todd Park.

Park resigned yesterday and is relocating to California to recruit technology experts into government roles.
