Career Zoo: Interview with Dr Johanna Archbold, Irish Research Council

25 Sep 2014

Dr Johanna Archbold from the Irish Research Council lets us know of the career opportunities available to scientific researchers and PhD students beyond academia.

Archbold works in the Irish Research Council’s enterprise programmes division, connecting researchers with partners in industry in order to further their projects and set them on a career path.

While at Career Zoo on 13 September in the Convention Centre Dublin, Archbold offered some advice to PhD students seeking employment and funding.

As well as offering tips on how to pitch a research project to a funding programme, she also reminds PhD students that, while a doctorate in a very specific research area might seem limited to a narrow scope, the range of skills acquired along the way can apply to a much broader range of career choices.
