In our employer insights series, AOL principal technical programme manager Caitriona Keating gives us the scoop on the workplace culture of one of the biggest tech names in Dublin.

AOL is a provider of digital content, advertising solutions and services through a wide variety of online brands including The Huffington Post, Engadget, TechCrunch, MapQuest, ADTECH and Advertising.com. AOL has been based in Dublin for the past 16 years and currently employs 160 people.

“AOL is like a big family,” explains Keating, “but how we bring the extras of the family is, every year we have an AOL kids’ Christmas party, where Santa comes to the office and everybody brings their kids and spouses. We have bring your kids to work day in the summer, the kids adore it – it’s chaotic and fun.”

Dublin is the development engine for Europe and works alongside sister development centres in New York, Dulles, Palo Alto and Frankfurt.

“AOL is very open company, once you have an interest and an ambition, you fit in to AOL,” says Keating. “With 25 nationalities working here we’re very open, very team orientated. Nobody is ever left to struggle with anything on it’s own.”

When asked why someone should apply to work for AOL, Keating replied, “Why not? AOL is a great team, we trust each other, root for each other and win as a team.”
