7 Apr 2011

A new record has been broken in terms of the output of Ireland’s wind farms on Monday morning of this week, according to EirGrid, the operators of the national grid.

It reported that 1,323 megawatts of power was generated from wind farms at 9.45am on Monday.

EirGrid monitors and matches electricity generation and usage throughout the country at its headquarters in Dublin.

Wind farms are becoming more popular in Ireland, with the construction of an increasing number of wind farms. This week, Energia reported its latest wind farm in Donegal was almost completed.

According to Eirgrid, it only takes one megawatt of generation to power the equivalent of about 650 homes.
