Existing buildings are responsible for more than 40pc of the world’s total primary energy consumption and for 24pc of global carbon dioxide emissions, reveals a new infographic on how to make buildings more energy efficient.

To decrease the numbers in those percentages, an energy-efficient building employs 'greener' solutions when it comes to water, waste, timber, flooring, lighting, heating and cooling, and even furniture.

Besides offering tips, options and guidance on the energy-efficient solutions, the infographic published by Spaceway on Visual.ly also reveals where energy is lost from buildings (walls are the main culprit), and lists examples of energy-efficient buildings from around the world, such as One Westminster Place in London, to help fire up energy-efficient inspiration.
