Ireland’s data hosting sector is set to grow at a rate of 18pc a year and the country currently has 60,000 square metres of data hosting space, an infographic presenting research by 451 Group reveals.
The TelecityGroup Ireland infographic based on the 451 Research demonstrates that Ireland’s digital economy is in full flow with over 1,000 multinationals, including Microsoft which has so far invested €900m in data centre infrastructure in the country and last week announced a second data centre project with investment of €170m.
The infographic shows that internet traffic in Ireland is growing at a rate of 200pc a year.
In terms of green energy Ireland is aiming for 40pc renewable energy by 2020 and that the Irish power grid currently accepts up to 50pc wind energy.
The country’s moderate climate is perfect for free air cooling, with temperatures that veer between six degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius.
The average age in Ireland is 35 and 48pc of 25 to 34 year-olds hold a third level qualification.
The country is also the only English-speaking country in the entire Eurozone.
