Digiweb planning additional data centre expansion

30 Oct 2008

Broadband and telecoms provider Digiweb has just opened its new 38,000sq ft data centre in Blanchardstown and is planning “to expand to tens of thousands of square feet” of further capacity over the next three years.

The company earlier this year acquired web-hosting player Novara, and the new expansion at its Blanchardstown campus provides it with an additional 50pc capacity.

This, the company said, will be expanded by tens of thousands of additional square feet of data centre in the next few years.

The data centre currently provides service to a number of high-profile customers including the Tower Hotel Group, the Law Society and the Central & Regional Fisheries Board, as well as some of Ireland’s most popular websites including iFoods.tv and boards.ie.

The data centre provides a range of services including secure co-location, disaster recovery facilities, managed servers and network hardware.

The certified facility uses N+1 engineering, multiple fibre rings and has agreements with various Tier 1 providers.

“Our initial build in 2007 within the 38,000sq ft building was designed to give us capacity for 24 months,” said Dan King (pictured), hosting and managed services manager with Digiweb. However, significant market demand has meant that we were reaching capacity far faster than expected, hence our accelerated build-out programme.

“This investment guarantees the highest level of uptime and support for our existing customers. It provides space to allow us to extend that service to new customers throughout 2009.”
