BT has commenced the latest chapter in its 21st Century Network (21CN) rollout with the deployment of Etherflow fibre/radio access points across Ireland.
Described as the most advanced next generation service available in the market, BT said it will expand Etherflow points across the country as Eircom opens up its next generation access infrastructure in the coming days.
BT, with its extensive national and international networks, is at the forefront of bringing the benefits of next generation services to Irish organisations through multiple access points including BT’s own fibre/radio network footprint, Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) and eircom’s next generation network.
“BT is investing in technology to bring Irish organisations a wide range of services offering choice and value for money,” Colm O’Neill, managing director of BT Business explained.
“As we continue to expand our network across the country, we also look forward to Eircom’s long-awaited opening up of wholesale local access which will further expand the reach of our next generation services and make them available to organisations nationwide,” said O’Neill.
BT Etherflow is a scalable technology that can grow with a business at a lower price per megabit than existing network services. Removing the complexity around information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure, Etherflow enables BT to provide an end-to-end network service, a one-stop shop with local access circuits at one end and seamless connectivity to BT’s global networks at the other.
Customers like 3 Ireland and Project Management Ltd have begun to see the significant benefits from the new BT Etherflow service.
For the mobile operator, it is a way to meet increased demand for bandwidth and to support its role in the National Broadband Scheme (NBS).
“BT has offered us the most efficient and cost-effective way of rolling out and managing our network,” said David Hennessy, chief technical officer, 3.
“Etherflow allows us to provide market leading capacity and BT’s solution is supporting our growth in Ireland,” Hennessy added.
Project Management Ltd is using BT Etherflow as a platform for better collaboration between its offices.
“Having BT as a one-stop shop for interconnectivity within Ireland, Europe and the rest of the world is the reason we signed up, along with the ability to take multiple services across a single link,” said Niall Twomey, Group ITC Manager, Project Management Ltd.
“2010 will see a revolution in communications and we are proud to be leading the way, not just in Ireland but around the globe,” added Colm O’Neill.
