MaxRoam frees the 3G iPad for data roaming

Irish telecoms firm Cubic Telecom has brought to market the first iPad 3G SIM card for Europe under its MaxRoam brand, to enable affordable data roaming.

Rather than clocking up roaming charges on a specific network when taking the iPad 3G to another country, Cubic Telecom – a Licensed Mobile Network Operator – offers a single low-cost rate across all European borders.

The specially developed MicroSIM costs €75 and comes preloaded with 50MB of data.

“Our R&D team has been working for the last three months on the new MicroSIM or Form Factor 3 SIM card standard which has been adopted by Apple for its new iPad and next-generation iPhones,” said Pat Phelan, Cubic Telecom founder and director of products and innovation.

The iPad MicroSIM is already on sale on the MaxRoam website, and as the iPad is ‘unlocked’, those in the US who already own an iPad 3G can pop the SIM in and use it while roaming in Europe.
