MaxRoam unveils roaming package for World Cup fans

Pat Phelan’s MaxRoam has launched a new SIM card especially for English and European World Cup soccer fans travelling to South Afica which will cut the cost of roaming for the fans by 50pc or more.

Many consumer advocates and media have warned English fans about the potential high cost of texting and calling home from South Africa. EU regulations, which cap roaming charges, do not apply outside the EU.

MaxRoam has launched a special World Cup SIM pack which comes with up to 100 minutes of calls to any EU country for £50. On some networks this would cost up to £145. Details at www.maxroam.com.

The MaxRoam offer applies to calls to and from the EU 27 countries, not just the UK.

Irish-born Phelan added: “These rates even apply to our friends in France.”

Cubic Telecom recently launched what it says is Europe’s first SIM card for the new iPad 3G.

Cubic Telecom is a licensed mobile network operator which provides a flexible and smart platform, enabling its partners to offer global roaming services at greatly reduced costs.

Customers include multinational corporations, mobile network operators (MNOs), mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) and travel companies.
