O2 offers students broadband services for €9.99 a month for a 10GB monthly download allowance on a 12-month contract
O2 has signed a one-year deal with HEAnet, Ireland’s National Education and Research Network, to offer discounted broadband for students.
Students only have to pay €9.99 per month for O2’s mobile broadband service, which has a 10GB monthly data allowance on a 12-month contract.
The offer is available in any O2 retail store. Students can also sign up during O2’s mobile broadband roadshow, which will be travelling to all participating HEAnet institutions throughout September.
HEAnet provides networking services to all Irish universities, institutes of technology and other higher education and research organisations. Students at these institutions are qualified to participate in this offer.
“Innovation in education and research is the key to Ireland’s future growth and success, and HEAnet’s wireless broadband strategy aims to support this goal,” said John Boland, CEO of HEAnet.
“As part of this strategy, the deal HEAnet has brokered with O2 provides a great opportunity to make wireless broadband more accessible and affordable to students, researchers and academic staff within the education and research community,” he said.
“We understand the financial pressures students are under and this is especially relevant in the current economic climate.
"We are delighted to be working with HEAnet to make this offer available," said Eoghan Patton, business delivery manager of Telefonica O2 Ireland.
Earlier this year, O2 announced its plans to further upgrade its mobile broadband service to offer significantly higher speed internet access, with download speeds of up to 21Mbps. Uplink speeds will be upgraded to 5.7Mbps.
