Wi-Fi operator Bitbuzz reports 100,000 monthly logins

20 Oct 2010

Wi-Fi network operator Bitbuzz revealed that for the first time it has recorded more than 100,000 monthly logins during September.

This compares with monthly login figures of just over 48,000 for the month of September 2009 and represents a more than 100pc increase for the same period in 2010.

Bitbuzz attributes much of this growth to the rise in popularity of smartphones, with currently more than 350,000 iPhone users in Ireland.

The total number of Bitbuzz Wi-Fi hotspots across the country at the end of September 2010 was 232, up from 198 at the end of 2009.

“We are very excited with our record-breaking September login figures, and are delighted to be offering such a beneficial and much-needed service to our customers in both Ireland and the UK,” said managing director Shane Deasy.

“On the basis of activity during the month of September, we are confident that this growth will continue.”

Earlier this year, Bitbuzz announced deals with the Carlton Hotel Group, Druids Glen Resort Hotel and Costa Coffee stores throughout Northern Ireland, an upgraded hotspot at The Merrion Hotel and most recently, the Audi Centre in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 – all of which have contributed significantly to the record growth in logins.
