BT ordered to block Newzbin2

26 Oct 2011

The UK’s largest telco and ISP BT has been ordered by the High Court in London to block access to a site called Newzbin2 which the Hollywood movie industry claimed was allowing users to access unlicensed material.

It is understood to be the first time a court in the UK has ruled that a website become unreachable.

BT has been given 14 days to block access to Newzbin2 and will be fined at least stg£5,000 if it fails to implement the ruling.

BT had tried to argue that it wasn’t its business as a telecoms provider to police copyright on the internet but this was rejected by the court.
