Irish people love to talk and so it makes sense that since an in-flight mobile service was launched by AeroMobile more than 900 calls, 25,000 text messages and 10,000 mobile devices connected to the internet on Emirates, Ethiad and SAS flights to and from Dublin.
Emirates and Etihad both operate flights to and from Ireland with AeroMobile connectivity on board; the airlines fly from Dublin to Dubai and Abu Dhabi respectively.
SAS also operates connected flights from Oslo and in the coming weeks Aer Lingus will be adding AeroMobile services to a number of long-haul aircraft.
AeroMobile is a UK-based GSM provider for the airline industry, providing services that allow the safe use of passengers’ own phones on aircraft.
“At AeroMobile we’ve seen demand for in-flight connectivity double over the past 12 months, and we’re pleased to see an increasing appetite for the service from Irish mobile users,” AeroMobile’s chief executive Kevin Rogers explained.
“With smartphone ownership on the rise, it makes sense that more and more consumers want to use their devices in the sky.
“In 2013 we expect at least 10 flights a day on Irish routes to offer AeroMobile’s network on board. That’s 300 flights every month or 3,650 a year,” Rogers said.
