Cable TV and broadband provider UPC today reported a 70,800 growth in subscribers of TV, broadband and phone services during the third quarter, with more than 1m service subscriptions reached. Growth overall was 7pc year-on-year.

As well as recently launching its 120Mbps broadband service as the new entry-level broadband speed on its network, UPC’s recently unveiled next-generation Horizon TV service has already attracted 30,000 subscribers within two months of launch.

UPC, which employs 800 direct staff and 700 indirectly, reported broadband subscriptions were up 12pc to 330,000 subscriptions.

As well as the 120Mbps offering, UPC also launched a Basics collection of digital services during the quarter.

“UPC Ireland has delivered another outstanding quarter, led by the continuing strength of our market position in high-speed internet, TV, phone and business services,” said UPC Ireland CFO Carol Grennan.

“UPC continues to grow sales of our product bundles and subscriptions where we have set a minimum standard for true fibre-power broadband and launched our extraordinary new Horizon TV service together with the best value phone services in Ireland.

“Through our fibre-power network, UPC is enabling and driving digital adoption by homes and businesses across Ireland where the superior performance of our network ensures that our customers are always online, using multiple devices and can access more content than with any other operator. “

Lennon said the operator’s fibre-powered network now reaches 746,000 Irish homes, the fruit of a seven-year long capital spend of €500m on infrastructure.
