As storms continued to lash across Ireland, leaving a trail of destruction and flooding affecting 300 towns and villages, Eircom has said it has 700 repair crews out addressing 10,000 reported faults.
The storm damage has affected most of the country, with particularly high fault volumes in Cork, Kerry, Galway, Mayo, Tipperary, Wexford and Limerick.
Eircom said the bad weather has affected both broadband and telephone services.
“We currently have approximately 10,000 faults and with the overnight storms and further predicted bad weather we anticipate there could be up to an additional 10,000 faults on our network in the coming days,” the company said.
“Of the current faults on our network, over 70pc of reported faults are less than five days old.”
Eircom said the 700 crew members are repairing an average of 2,000 faults per day.
“The damage caused by the latest round of storms is mostly wind related and has resulted in significant damage to our overhead network, particularly with falling trees taking down overhead telephone lines.
“Our underground network is holding up well and we are not currently experiencing significant flood damage,” Eircom said.
