Half of Irish homes can now receive UPC’s 200Mbps fibre service

UPC said half of homes in Ireland can now receive at least 200Mbps broadband speeds from the fibre provider. The company reported third-quarter subscriptions were up by 65,200 to 1.1m homes and businesses.

The 13,500 subscriptions were added across the company’s broadband, TV and phone services.

The increase in subscriptions represents a 6pc year-on-year quarterly growth.

The company said it now has 359,100 broadband subscribers, up 9pc on last year.

UPC has 336,300 phone subscribers, up 21pc on last year.

In terms of digital TV, the company reported it has 335,800 subscribers.

During the quarter, the company became partners with coding club CoderDojo at the Coolest Project Awards and EU Code Week and committed to helping launch 10 new dojos across Ireland.

The company also surpassed its 100,000th customer milestone for Horizon TV and launched its Deezer music app on the Horizon TV apps service.

UPC’s Irish network investment now exceeds €1bn

UPC’s parent company Liberty Global reported third-quarter revenues of US$4.5bn, up 5pc, and year-to-date revenues of US$13.6bn, which is up 36pc on last year.

“We are pleased to report a third successive quarter of growth in subscriptions during 2014,” UPC Ireland CFO Carol Grennan said.

“Our investment in excess of €1bn has brought our network to over 850,000 premises in 20 main cities and towns nationwide.

“Half of all Irish homes can receive UPC’s 200Mbps broadband speed and businesses, including SMEs, are being offered tailor-made speeds of up to 500Mbps and additional valuable business products to address their needs.

“We continue to focus on innovative new services where we are providing the best overall experience and value for our entire customer base, including our Horizon TV service, which recently passed 100,000 subscriptions,” Grennan said.
