Vodafone rolls out 4G roaming across 33 countries

15 Dec 2014

Just in time for people who may be travelling this Christmas, mobile operator Vodafone has introduced new 4G roaming plans that work across 33 countries.

It said 4G roaming will be available to all who have opted in to RED Roaming, a daily add-on enabling people who are travelling to access their home plans’ calls and texts.

The add-on also includes a 200MB data allocation. The daily rate will apply only on days when the phone is used.

The daily add-on price ranges from €1.99 in the UK, €2.99 for people travelling in Europe, the US, Canada and Turkey and €2.99 a day in Australia and New Zealand. The price rises to €4.99 a day if visiting New Zealand, South Africa, China and India.

“Vodafone 4G is already available to over 80pc of people in Ireland so it is excellent news that this superfast mobile experience has been extended abroad and includes our customers’ top five favourite destinations: UK, Spain, France, USA and Portugal,” said Vodafone Ireland’s consumer director Marcel de Groot.

“We hope customers have an enjoyable mobile experience when travelling for business or to visit family and friends during the festive season.”

In recent weeks Vodafone revealed that 4G users in Ireland will have access to data speeds of up to 150Mbps via new 4G+ technology, which is achieved by combining two 4G bandwidths.
