Europe’s digital clusters to gather in Dublin this week

17 Jun 2013

Eight digital clusters from around Europe, including Dublin’s Digital Hub, are to gather in the Digital Depot this Tuesday. The gathering precedes the European Digital Agenda Assembly at Dublin Castle on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 June as part of Ireland’s EU Presidency.

The eight clusters comprise those from Spain, Sweden, Scotland, England, Malta, Portugal and the Czech Republic.

This marks the first occasion for these clusters to come together in a formal way.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s gathering of digital clusters, the chief executive of the Digital Hub Development Agency, Edel Flynn said:  “This gathering is one of the most important of the European Presidency.

“As member states grapple with recovery, one issue is clear: digital now dominates the way in which we learn, do business and conduct many activities in our home lives.

“The EU needs to prioritise and support digital growth and innovation so that digital competency is pervasive in all member states and across all aspects of people’s everyday life.

“The experience of digital clusters – such as that of the Digital Hub – is crucial in helping to inform European policy,” Flynn said.
