Silicon Republic’s sixth Digital Ireland Forum featured keynotes from Eventbrite CTO and co-founder Renaud Visage and Digital Youth Council member Ciara Judge.

The event took place on 12 September 2014 at the Convention Centre Dublin, opening with an address from Communications Minister Alex White, TD, who re-affirmed the Government’s commitment to national broadband roll-out.

This was followed by a special video presentation from Ireland’s digital champion Lord David Puttnam, who warned of complacency when it came to digital enabling businesses.

Our first keynote address came from our youngest-ever speaker, 16-year-old Ciara Judge, who previously shared her experiences as a Young Scientist winner and Digital Youth Council member with Siliconrepublic.com readers.

At the Digital Ireland Forum, Judge gave attendees the perspective of a digital native attempting to keep apace within an education system in desperate need of an upgrade. She was then joined for a panel discussion by ESB Innovation director John McSweeney, Eircom Wholesale MD Carolan Lennon and BT Ireland’s director of wholesale and strategy Peter Evans, chaired by our own CEO and editor-at-large Ann O’Dea.

Renaud Visage, co-founder and CTO of Eventbrite, then took to the stage for the morning’s second keynote, where he discussed digital trends and changing consumer expectations. O’Dea rejoined Visage on-stage to chair a second panel including Gerry Macken, interim CEO of the Digital Hub Development Agency; Gavan Smyth, vice-president of business services, UPC Ireland; and Anne Sheehan, head of enterprise, Vodafone Ireland.
