PlayStation Move gets Irish debut, launch date

12 Aug 2010

Following on from a sneak preview of PlayStation Wave, the new motion controlled gaming system will be launched by Sony on 17 September.

Hard-core gamers and technology journalists kick the tyres on Move last night as Sony put on demo sessions in the Radisson Hotel. The PlayStaion Move starter pack will be available for €59.99 (RRP), which will include a Move motion controller, a PlayStation Eye camera and a Move start disc containing demos of the Move games available from launch.

PlayStation Move is unlike both the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 Kinect in that it has both motion sensitive controllers and a motion-detecting camera.

The Move motion controller, available as a standalone device for €39.99, can be used in conjunction with the navigation controller that navigates in-game characters in select Move games. This secondary controller has analog stick buttons for menu navigation and L1, L2 and L3 buttons for actions and commands in advanced gaming.

Move works by using the ‘wand’ or controller in conjunction with the Eye camera in order to pick up the player exactly in 3D space while allowing them to navigate and interact.

Move promises motion detection that captures both large sweeping movements as well as those that require precision.

By March 2011 SCE Worldwide Studios and its publishing partners will have released over 40 PS3 titles that either support, or are specifically created for the Move platform.

Some games that will be arriving on Move are NBA 2K11, Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2011, Time Crisis: Razing Storm, and Toy Story 3.

There are also family games like EyePet (care for a virtual pet considerably more sophisticated than the Tamagotchi!), Sports Champions and LittleBigPlanet 2 as well as some serious clout in the form of Heavy Rain, Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs.
