Xbox 360 gets updated dashboard before Kinect launch

1 Nov 2010

The latest Xbox 360 dashboard update is being rolled out across Xbox LIVE, preparing for the launch of the Kinect and includes the Zune Marketplace and upgrade features.

Users will be prompted to accept the update the next time they sign into Xbox LIVE. If users do not opt in, they will be unable to sign into Xbox LIVE until the update is complete.

The Zune Marketplace has been added, which lets users buy music individually or through a monthly subscription service. Users can connect to the Zune online community and the Smart DJ feature lets users create customised playlists.

The release also includes an enhanced dashboard interface, improved voice chat quality for Xbox LIVE Party and improved Gamertag creation.

It also has streamlined the in-dashboard virtual keyboard, making it easier to use, and a reorganised Game Marketplace to reduce the number of steps it takes to get to a download.

Users can now sign out other controllers in the sign-in user interface, aimed at providing an easier way of doing it for games such as Rock Band and the dashboard now has updated family settings.
