Dell announces employee shift to smartphone

Dell has announced it intends to migrate thousands of its researchers from BlackBerry over to Dell’s smartphones.

According to Reuters, the switch will displace around 25,000 of its BlackBerry employees who will soon begin working on Dell Venue Pro – supported by T-Mobile service in the US – which runs on Microsoft’s Windows 7 software.

News of the switch was announced initially in the Wall Street Journal and was confirmed by Dell spokesman David Frink, who said the switch will begin soon, but said it will take some time to complete.

The decision to focus on the smartphone follows Dell’s first foray into the market after last year’s release of the Aero – which runs on Google’s Android software – in the US.

In other news, Dell recently announced it has acquired SaaS integration company Boomi for its cloud computing portfolio for an undisclosed amount.
