Kinect for Xbox 360 arrives in Ireland

Microsoft has launched the Kinect for the Xbox 360, bringing its handsfree control system to Ireland. Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her husband Richard Jones from the band The Feeling are taking part in the launch party at the RHA in Dublin.

The Kinect lets gamers use their bodies to play games, turning them into a controller. The sensor detects the player, observing how they move and how they play.

Ellis-Bextor and Jones will be DJing at the exclusive launch party.

‘What we’re seeing with Kinect is an entertainment revolution in the living room – using cutting-edge technology that’s simple to use to deliver an immersive and visceral experience that everyone can be part of,” said Kieran Penwill, Ireland country manager for Microsoft’s entertainment and devices division.

“With 19 Kinect games available across Europe this holiday season — including dance, fitness, sports, racing and family experiences — Kinect gets everyone in the family off the couch, on their feet and in the game.”

Xbox LIVE members can control movies and music using the controller, too. Players can also engage in video chat through Video Kinect over Xbox LIVE with Windows Live Messenger.

The Kinect for Xbox 360 costs at €149.99 and includes the Kinect sensor and Kinect Adventures.

The Xbox 360 4GB Console with Kinect includes the new Xbox 360 4GB console, Kinect sensor and Kinect Adventures, priced at €299.99.

Expect a review of the Kinect on Siliconrepublic later today.
