iPad 2 to ship in February in time for April launch?

7 Dec 2010

Component manufacturer Foxconn Electronics will reportedly ship the iPad 2 by the end of February 2011, aiming for Apple’s launch of the product in April.

According to DigiTimes, initial shipments will reach 400,000 to 600,000 units.

Apple had originally planned to start production in January, however, it had to postpone this as it is still testing the firmware.

The reports also say that currently there are more iPads in supply than in channel sales, which could suggest inventory issues for Apple.

However, Apple has no plans to stop production. As such, shipments from the manufacturers are expected to drop after January so Apple can digest the inventory across the rest of the first quarter and then introduce the iPad 2 in April.
