Sony is working on a Honeycomb tablet, which could have a 9.4-inch screen and could be PlayStation certified, a report says.
According to Engadget, the tablet, code named S1, has a “wrap” design, to remind the user of “an open paperback stuffed into the back pocket, or a magazine folded backward upon itself such that only a single page is visible to read.”
The design’s angle is said to make it easier to touch type when placed on a table and, because the centre of gravity is shifted to the edge, it may make it easier to hold in one hand.
An engineering team across all sectors of the company, including VAIO, Reader, PlayStation and Sony Ericsson, will reportedly create the software.
The 9.4-inch screen is said to have a 1,280 x 800-pixel resolution and could include a Tegra 2 processor.
The device may run on Android 3.0 and it may be PlayStation certified, similar to the Xperia Play.
It could have front and rear-facing cameras, a USB port and an IR port to control devices other than a Bravia TV.
It is said to have a focus on Qriocity, Sony’s media-on-demand service and may have preloaded PS One games.
Engadget says it could ship in September, though the date has slipped several times already.
