WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been granted a two-day hearing beginning 12 July at the High Court in London for his appeal against extradition to Sweden on allegations of sexual assault.
The appeal is against District Judge Howard Riddle's ruling at Belmarsh Magistrates’ Court in south London in February that extradition would not breach Assange's human rights.
Assange denies the allegations against him and believes they were politically motivated. WikiLeaks, a whistle-blowing website, had published leaked American diplomatic cables, causing an uproar within the US government. Assange expressed concern that if extradited to Sweden he could then be extradited to the US to face new charges regarding WikiLeaks.
Two female WikiLeaks volunteers have accused Assange of committing sex crimes in Stockholm last August. He faces three allegations of sexual assault and one of rape.
