HTC EVO 3D superphone to coincide with 3D movies on Watch

27 Jun 2011

HTC has revealed details of its first 3D phone, the EVO 3D, which it described as a high-tiered member of its ‘superphone’ family and which will follow hot on the heels of the HTC Sensation.

A spokesman for HTC said the new Android 2.3 superphone with glass-less 3D technology will be available in the third quarter.

“It will have the full 3D experience. The camera can take in HD shots and will also be future-proofed to be used in 2D and 3D experiences.

“Not only that, but users will have the ability to take photos in 3D and also look at them directly in 3D without the use of 3D glasses.”

3D videos on HTC Watch

The spokesman added that users will be able to explore 3D content on the internet, particularly on YouTube, as well as view Google Maps in 3D.

He said HTC will be enabling 3D on its HTC Watch on-demand movie service, which it launched with the HTC Sensation last month.

“We will have a portfolio of 3D movies available at launch.”

The EVO 3D’s 3D paralex camera will have a large F2.2 aperture and a dual LED flash.

“The aperture will be larger than previous cameras, allowing users to take shots in darker locations but enjoy more vivid results.”

The device will be similar in size to the HTC Sensation, which has a 4.3-inch qHD display, and will be similarly priced.

The dual-core device will come with 4GB of storage, as well as an 8GB micro SD card.

The EVO 3D will boast full stereo surround sound and will be powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
